LTE Patent Pool News: NGMN Alliance Announces Request for Information to LTE Patent Pool Administrators

The Next Generation Mobile Network (NGMN) Alliance consists of 58 worldleading global network operators, technology vendors and universities. The network operators represent more than half of all mobile phone users worldwide and technology vendors represent more than 90 percent of implemented mobile wireless infrastructure.

The Board of the NGMN Alliance (NGMN) has decided to announce that it is to issue a public Request for Information (RFI) on LTE Patent Pool Administration. The RFI on LTE Patent Pool Administration will be published on the NGMN website (http://www.ngmn.org/) on 3rd September, 2009. Prior to this all prospective patent pool administrators, that have or have not yet issued a call for LTE patents, are invited to participate in the NGMN RFI process and to indicate their interest until 2nd September 2009, to rfi(at)ngmn.org.

After receipt of responses, each prospective patent pool administrator answering the RFI will also be invited to present its envisaged role in the LTE eco-system to NGMN partner representatives from 14th - 15th October in Vienna, Austria.

NGMN Alliance will conduct the RFI to gather information on potential LTE patent pools for NGMN partners.
